The system parts for single wall chimney and fume pipes are manufactured using acid resistant steel. This protects the internal surfaces of chimney ducts from the destructive effects of high temperature fumes produced by modern, energy-saving heating equipment.

As traditional solid fuels are replaced by environmentally sound gas and liquid fuels, chimneys must be outfitted for new heating equipment and new working conditions. The MKS system of single wall parts may be used where significant changes to the construction of the building are not possible. This system allows existing chimneys to be adapted to these new conditions.

The pipe diameter of the new system is designed specifically for the chimney in which it is to be installed. The number of sections required is dependent upon the height of the ceramic chimney. The existing chimney must be in good working condition for the new MK system to operate. As more powerful heating systems have pipes with a larger diameter some traditional chimneys may be unable to accommodate the new system.

Heating equipment for liquid fuels (oil and gas) may be connected to the acid resistant chimneys. Before the smoke conduit is assembled in the ceramic chimney it must be cleared of any loose ceramic fragments or solid fuel debris. For proper installation of the MKS system, holes of suitable length must be drilled into the lower part of the ceramic chimney to enable connection to the new heating boilers. Additional modifications must be made for escape bends or the choked smoke conduit. The smoke conduit must be securely installed at the center of the chimney duct. The fittings must be assembled with the appropriate joints to ensure the necessary tightness.

Whenever possible, the smoke conduit should be temperature-insulated with boards containing granulated mineral wool. All materials must certified noncombustible according to ITB as per Polish Standard PN-83B-02862.
